Call for papers: Temanummer Text & Talk/Special issue of Text & Talk

(See information in English below )

Planerade bidrag

This is an open call for a planned special issue of the well-reputed journal Text & Talk, focussing on nonfictional prose (Swe. sakprosa). The initiative behind the special issue comes from the Nordic network for non-fictional prose. We are inviting articles with a clear focus on non-fictional prose, preferably situated in the Nordic or Scandinavian setting. Earlier and contemporary Nordic research on non-fictional prose can be found for example in the journal Sakprosa, whose editorial board will also take part in the editorial activities for this special issue of Text & Talk.

Two large research projects on non-fictional prose in Sweden (which started in the 1990s) and in Norway (started 2000) have established the term non-fictional prose as a much needed and often used, constructive concept in the Norwegian research tradition, while it has fallen almost into neglect in Sweden, where concepts like text, discourse and practice have become more established and foregrounded. In Denmark, research on non-fictional prose has always been marginal, but specific research environments have recently started to express their interest. In Finland, a professorship for research on non-fictional prose was established in 2015, and it was a Finnish initiative that led to the formation of the Nordic network for non-fictional prose, where researchers from the four Nordic countries have so far organized four workshops on different aspects of non-fictional prose.

If you are interested in contributing an article, you are welcome to submit an abstract of a maximum of 400 words no later than June 30, 2020. Send your abstract to the editiorial staff of Sakprosa: merete.pettersen@nulliln.uio.no. We aim for March 15, 2021 as the deadline for the articles.

Planned contributions

Per Ledin & Kjell Lars Berge:  The text concept in non-fiction research

Pirjo Hiidenmaa: Readers and reading of literary non-fiction

Johan Tønnesson: The history and potential of the Nordic concept ”Sakprosa” (nonfiction/factual prose)

Anders Johansen: Non-fiction, rhetoric and empowerment

Jack Andersen: Non-fiction in a digital world

Christina Mathiessen: The teaching of non-fiction from a rhetorical perspective

Gøril Hammerstad Thommassen: «Sakprosa»/ (non-fiction/factual prose) as a framework and resource in professional communication

You are welcome to send this invitation to anyone you might think would be interested in contributing. Questions and comments can be directed to Johan Tønnesson (johan.tonnesson@nulliln.uio.no) or Catharina Nyström Höög (cnh@nulldu.se).

Artikkelrop fra Rhetorica Scandinavica
(English below)

Redaktører for spesialnummeret er Hans Marius Hansteen (hans.hansteen@nulluib.no) og Eirik Vatnøy (eirik.vatnoy@nulliln.uio.no)

Frist for innsending av artikkelmanus: 6. desember 2019. Artikler sendes til eirik.vatnoy@nulliln.uio.no

Artikkelmanus, max 8000 ord.

Spesialnummeret publiseres våren 2020. Rhetorica Scandinavica er et heldigitalt tidsskrift.

Call for papers, «Peace, Conflict and Communication», Rhetorica Scandinavica

In cooperation with the 7th Nordic Conference for Rhetorical Research (NKRF7) Rhetorica Scandinavica invites interested researchers to submit articles for a special issue on the conference theme «Peace, Conflict and Communication».

The rhetorical tradition has always thematized communication in conflict, and «rhetoric» is in itself a contentious concept and topic. Interest in rhetoric appears to be particularly great in times of turmoil, and various assessments of rhetoric have their origins in the role rhetoric plays in social, political and military conflicts. Rhetoric is both a means of fighting and a means of conflict resolution. In such contexts, it becomes clear that «peace» too is a contentious term.  «Peace» can refer too conflict-free unity or hard fought compromise.

Talking about peace can mask conflicts, but it can also be a way to articulate and work through conflicts. Whether consensus or conflict is the most fundamental in communication is a central issue, both empirically and theoretically, and points to important connections between rhetoric, ethics and political theory. In this special issue we wish to publish empirical and theoretical articles that deal with questions of peace and conflict from a rhetorical perspective. Articles based on papers presented at NKRF7 are particularly welcome, but the invitation is not limited to such contributions. Articles will be reviewed by the editors and two anonymous peers. The selection of articles will be based on thematic and academic relevance as well as the journal’s general profile and form.

The special issue will be edited by Hans Marius Hansteen (hans.hansteen@nulluib.no) and Eirik Vatnøy (eirik.vatnoy@nulliln.uio.no)

Please submit your article proposal too eirik.vatnoy@nulliln.uio.no by December 6th. Word count: 8000. For further guidelines see Rhetorica Scandinavica’s publication guide: https://www.retorikforlaget.se/for-skribenter/

The special issue will be published in the spring of 2020.

Call for Papers: Retorikkens metoder, bogudgivelse 2020
