Tittel på foredragene er: «The Argumentative Dimension of Discourse: A New Rhetorical Approach to Literary Texts»

Gjesteforelesning: torsdag 28. august 2008 kl. 14.15-16.00
Seminarrom 12 P.A. Munchs hus på Blindern i Oslo

Seminar: fredag 29. august 2008 kl. 13.15-16.00

At the crossroad of Discourse Analysis and Argumentation theories, Ruth
Amossy elaborates the notion of the «argumentative dimension» of
literary discourse. She shows how text analysis can benefit from a
discursive approach drawing both on linguistics and on argumentation
studies, and how such an approach illuminates novelistic writing not
only in its formal, but also in its social aspects. After analyzing in
her lecture an example borrowed from Balzac’s La Cousine Bette, she will
examine, in the seminar, intimate writings like diaries and private
letters (A. Dreyfus), allowing for a further discussion not only of the
argumentative dimension of discourse, but also of the related notions of
audience and interaction, genre, ethos or doxa.

Ruth Amossy is Professor of French Literature, Discourse Analysis and
Argumentation at Tel-Aviv University, Israël. She is the coordinator,
with Prof. Roselyne Koren, of ADARR (Analyse du discours, argumentation,
rhétorique http://www.tau.ac.il/~adarr). Among her publications : Les
